WikiData
Charta Software is developing a triple store as an assignment from NBIC. This project is an extension to the previous WikiData projects (WikiProfessional, WikiPeople, WikiProteins) by Knewco. WikiData is a (web based) knowledge system which allows users to view and edit information or knowledge through a uniform interface. The information in the system is stored and edited in a highly structured way, as triples, which greatly reduces information redundancy and enables higher level applications to easily query, summarize and mine the knowledge present in the system.
WikiData has been designed to support the storage of knowledge in a very generic form thereby trying to avoid as much as possible the exclusion of potential valuable information sources. The current design allows information from various sources and of different structure to be tightly integrated within one system, thereby leveraging synergy and serendipity among information sources that are traditionally separated both on the basis of geographic location and underlying data structure.
CWA and the ConceptWiki
The goal of the development of the WikiData triple store is to enable the ConceptWiki. This ConceptWiki is the subject of one of the working groups of the Concept Web Alliance. The Concept Web Alliance will maintain, but not claim ownership of, a ConceptWiki (www.conceptwiki.org) in which concepts and their various tokens are associated with one another so that interoperability and mapping between different identifier systems and languages is facilitated.triplestore.org
